Description

York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (YSTHFT) is a large integrated acute and community Trust providing a range of acute hospital and specialist healthcare services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire, and Ryedale. With an annual turnover approaching £1 billion, our dedicated workforce of around 10,000 staff delivery care in community settings as well as across our 8 hospital sites.

Whilst we have seen considerable improvement to our service provision, as outlined in the updated CQC report which saw us move from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Requires Improvement’ with a rating of ‘Good’ in the domains Well-Led, Caring, and Effective, we continue to face a period of significant challenge as an organisation. Work is already underway to meet the requirements of the report and continue our improvement journey, and with a new Chief Executive, Clare Smith, joining the Trust at the end of November, this is a pivotal moment in an era of transformational change.

Following the decision of our current Chief Nurse, Dawn Parkes, to retire next year, we are looking for a values-driven, inspiring, and inclusive Executive Chief Nurse to join our Board. As the lead for Patient Safety and Experience, Safeguarding, Quality, and Staffing, you will provide professional leadership and strategic direction for our Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professionals. You will also work closely with the Medical Director to provide strategic leadership and implement the Trust’s Quality Strategy, and as the Maternity Executive Safety Champion and Director of Infection Prevention and Control, ensure robust systems support the delivery of safe, high-quality, and timely care across all services. Ensuring alignment with our purpose to deliver excellent healthcare every day, you will promote a focus on continuous improvement and bring progressive thinking to the development of our services and partnerships. As a visible leader and role model for our values Kindness, Openness, and Excellence, our Executive Chief Nurse will champion a culture of belonging and psychological safety.

We are seeking an innovative and experienced nursing leader – a Registered Nurse or Midwife – with a track record of operating at or close to Board level in an acute organisation. You will be experienced in leading multi-professional and cross-organisational service development and improvement to better patient outcomes and be able to inspire and influence across a diverse and varied range of stakeholders both internally and externally. Comfortable in developing partnerships and new ways of working, you will thrive in working with system stakeholders to influence and deliver real improvement in the health and wellbeing of our populations.

We want our Board to be as inclusive as possible and are committed to increasing our Board diversity. We are particularly keen to attract candidates who bring diverse perspectives, and we welcome and encourage applications from the widest possible range of backgrounds.
